OMG.... Frog legs...I almost died one New Year's Eve..I was laughing soooo hard..
There we were, four military couples, we had just returned from a long deployment in Honduras, me and the wife, Tim the New Yorker, with Cathy a Bostonian, John the exsquid With Mary and Bill from California and his wife Ann...
We decided we would spend New Years Eve at the Harborfront in Baltimore. It's a big mall with fancy restaurants I had made a reservation...so we showed up and the maitre d in his tux went apololitic. We were denied entrance as we were underdressed...he went goose stepping to get the manager and Tim, John and Bill rushed the door and sat at the reserved table followed by THIER companions.. Well poo... We rushed and got in as the popinjay shrilly announced he was onto us street ruffians. The Manger explained that there was a dress code.. The squid man started A long story of poor servicemen recently returned from a foreign country separated for over a year from THIER loved ones.. He had hoped to proposed to his fiancée Cathy.. (Wait a minute he just met Cathy yesterday when she was assigned to the unit?!) our class A blues had been lost InTransit from the American Embassy in Paris and we had only the clothes on our backs...the ladies being true ladies did not want to overdress their escorts..

And this was done so the whole dining room could hear it...the manager graciously waived the dress requirements to the applause of the other diners...

Well the popinjay got his nose out of joint... He went hither and yon waiting on the other diners much to the annoyance of the other waiters who had THIER tables being poached.

Tim the New Yorker.what a clown

Well he lets out a New York piercing taxi whistle using his hand to really heighten the whistle...everything comes to a grinding stop... The diners are now staring at us...
Tim points to the popinjay " Hey buddy, you got Frog Legs?"

The waiter looks down his nose and sneered "but of course we do, this is a premiere French Restaurant!"

Tim having set the trap stood up and calmly said "Well, hop on over here and take our damn Order!"

The whole restaurant burst out laughing as the popinjay threw down his tickets and stomped off the floor.

It was priceless!

I ate at Phil's when it was in Waynesville. The potato salad tasted like Walmarts and the corn was not seasoned and it was cold. I never went back.

That is what I thought too. I can buy store bought potato salad at the store or other sides. Why the heck can't these places make their sides from scratch in the long run they will get people to come back and want to eat at their place.

Gary Dowd of Dowds Catfish bought the cave restaurant. I never was a fan of his lebanon restaurants. In fact once I left sick. But I have to say, He has hired some great staff, he is very friendly and eager to serve, and the food, as well as the environment were great! Our waitress reminded me alot of "Flo" from Mel's Diner. She wouldnt be everybodys cup of tea, but she cut up with us and did a wonderful job of keeping us topped off and entertained. During the meal Gary checked on us and actually adjusted some of our sides to our liking. He was a very gracious host and we came away with a vastly different, and much more favorable, opinion of the place than the many times we visited before he bought it.
