I'll bet they really don't have any plans to show up, They just love to create a stir.
Do not suffer fools gladly or lightly.
Tell them what you really think.

These people are basically predators that thrive off stirring emotions and trying to elicit a response that can result in litigation - that's how they fund themselves.

It's pretty pathetic that they can abuse their rights in this manner, but I guess free speech is a double edged sword. Were they to protest at a funeral for one of my loved ones I can't say I would be able to excerise the proper restraint.

I've been wondering how long they'll be able to go before somebody gives 'em what they deserve. Of course, then that person will go to jail, and sit there while these creeps spend the settlement. They're animals.

For whatever it's worth, a group of white guys -- American Nazis -- went to court and won the right to protest in Skokie, Ill. Do some Google searches and you'll see the parallels to Westboro's protests are virtually identical, from a legal perspective.

This is settled case law, it has been for decades, and if it ever changes, because it requires Supreme Court action to reverse longstanding precedent, it will most likely be left-wingers trying to censor conservatives, not the other way around.

The best response to Westboro is to counteract their free speech rights with a very loud and patriotic flagwaving response -- i.e., what the Patriot Guard is doing.

I believe the only Constitutional way to shut down the Westboro people would be to prosecute them for treason. Some of what they did to support Saddam Hussein may fall into that category, but it's not going to happen in our current legal environment. In fact, we'd probably get something horrible out of the courts.

I'd get my butt handed to me by either the participants, the crowd, or by the cops themselves. (Most probably a combination of all three.) And rightfully so. Heck even I'd want a piece of a guy that did something like that. Is there any way that a city can apply for an ex-parte against a group of people, or something of it's like? We can't let theses people have their say anymore in places with circumstances like this. I'm planning on riding down on Sunday. If anything, I'll just sit in front of them while revving the engine on my bike. I know that a constantly revving engine gets annoying, but in comparison to the alternative, it might just be music to someone's ears.

Agreed. I really think the best way to combat these people is to just simply ignore them. Pretend they don't exist, no matter what they say. However, if they were in close proximity to me and spewing their usual hate speech, I don't know that I'd have the ability to contain myself enough to ignore them.
