This should have never happened......more than one deputy should be involved with prisoner transport for safety reasons and legal reasons.
A big black eye on the sheriff's department if this turns out to be true.

Got to agree. As you well know I requested funds for a second transport officer but those funds never showed up. So I took admin people away from their actual jobs and sent them on transports. Rob Peter to pay Paul. No incidents on transports but the admin jobs did not get done on time.

BBW most things you asked for when you were the sheriff and I was just a lowly commissioner were turned down by the other two commissioners and most of the time never even made it to a vote.
I often wonder how much better the county would be if your ideas were allowed to have been voted on, money and the lack of it was all the other commissioners would talk about they never wanted to explore other ways of raising the funds needed to operate the county.

You're right about that Rudy. Heck, for many years the other two Commissioners you speak of turned down even allowing the people to VOTE on a LE sales tax. What happened when it was finally voted on. It passed overwhelmingly by the voter's of the County, because they know we have been and still are behind the power curve on funding for our LEO's. Just like when you deal with money, for legal and ethical reasons you never have the same person in control of every part of that exchange, because that CAN lead to problems. Moving prisoners should be exactly the same thing both to protect the officer and the inmate(s). When problems like this arise, just like in any organization you must take immediate action and keep deal with it and then make adjustments so it doesn't happen again. This fella is in some deep trouble. And, of course he is innocent until proven guilty, but if he did do this, he must pay the price for doing the deed.

The jail would be well on it's way to being paid for. Just like the tourism tax.

People of tunnel vision have been on the commission too many times over the years.
As a person who dislikes paying tax's, sometimes you have to give in if you want improvements in your community.
